Assess Overview- EMS
Discover how the Assess feature can assist Administrators with creating robust and efficient safety assessments.
Using the Assess Dashboard
Assessments can be created, viewed and managed using the Assessments Dashboard. Users will see a quick indication if an assessment has been completed, or if it is still in progress.

Depending on each user’s access permissions, users can either view or manage assessments within the district/site. All actions on an assessment can be made by locating it in the dashboard and clicking the 3 Dot Actions menu to the right:
- View
- Edit (Available to administrators only)
- Mark as complete/incomplete (Available to administrators only)
- Download
- Delete (Available to administrators only)
Starting a New Assessment
Only Administrators can start a new assessment.
To start a new assessment:
- Navigate to the Assessments Dashboard and Click + New Assessment near the top right corner
- Next, select the Site, Template and Year
- Click Start
- A new assessment will be created from the selected template
Assessment Features
Each Assessment will display the main summary and any attachments at the top of page. Users can mark an assessment as complete by clicking Mark as complete near the top right corner. Additional actions can be taken using the 3 Dot Actions menu which is also near the top right corner.
Each section within an assessment will be displayed on the left side to assist users in navigating throughout the assessment, especially if it is lengthy. Clicking on a section from the left side will display questions within that section on the right side of the page.
Administrators can answer each question, download each section, and set the section visibility, while staff can only view and cannot make any edits to an assessment.
Managing Assessment Templates for Your District
Administrators will see an additional tab called Templates when navigating into the Assess feature. The Templates tab allows administrators to manage the templates that assessments can be created from. Administrators can create custom templates that are specific to their site/district; and can also import preset templates from Navigate360. Once added, both custom and imported templates can be utilized as assessments for evaluating security requirements or any other state-based requirements.
To Add a Custom Template:
- From the Templates tab in Assess, click + Custom Template near the top right corner
- Enter the required information, then click Create
- You will then be directed to the Assess Template Editor where you can edit the template info and/or create sections with questions
- Users can edit, manage, or create additional sections within a custom template
- Sections within custom assessments may include unlimited questions; and questions can be given a hint and/or an answer type
To Import a Navigate360 Template:
- From the Templates tab in Assess, click Import near the top right corner
- Select the desired template, then click Import
- You will then be directed back to the Assess Templates tab, where the newly imported template will be displayed
Managing Templates:
Admins can manage all custom & imported templates by clicking on the 3 Dot Actions menu to the right of the template and selecting the following:
- Publish/Unpublish (This will dictate whether an assessment can be created off this template or not. Assessments can only be created from published template)
- Edit
- Copy
- Delete
