Geofencing alarms in Campus360 can automatically notify designated users when a mobile phone places a 911 call from within a defined geographic boundary, known as a geofence. When a qualifying call occurs, the system activates an Emergency Management alarm so the right people are alerted that a 911 call was made from within the monitored area.
Getting this configuration right matters because it determines whether designated users are alerted at all. The geofence itself is established during implementation, and the alarm must be set up correctly for an activation to be assigned and for notifications to be delivered.
How Geofence Alarms Work:
- A mobile phone places a 911 call from a location inside the defined geofence.
- Campus360 detects that the qualifying call originated within the monitored boundary.
- The system activates the associated Emergency Management alarm, “Emergency”
- Designated users are notified within Emergency Management that a 911 call was placed from within the geofence.
Geofence alarm activations are monitored 24x7. If 911 calls are placed outside of school hours, designated users will still be notified.
Configuring the Geofencing Alarm:
Geofencing alarm configuration should be completed during initial implementation. Refer to these steps to understand how the system operates.
Note: Once the “Emergency” alarm is enabled, this alarm will be visible to all users who activate alarms via EM Mobile App. As a best practice, end users should be trained to activate incident specific alarms - not general “Emergency” alarms as they will only notify a select group of individuals.
- In Rapid Alarm, select Settings
- Select +Create New Alarm Type
- Complete the required steps for enabling a new alarm. The alarm name must reflect “Emergency” to be associated to a Geofence 911 call activation.
- Alarm Name: Emergency
- Choose your preferred notification sound and icon
